Happy Halloween everyone! I threw a kids’ halloween party for our playgroup last week. It was a blast to see all of the kids dressed up, but unfortunately I didn’t get pictures of everyone. As you will notice, I have a tendency to go overboard on things so by the time the party came around, I was exhausted and wasn’t able to get very many shots of everything like I normally would. I should’ve taken my own advice and hired a photographer!! Being party planner, hostess, mommy and photographer all at the same time is just one or three too many things to be during a party. Anyhow, I didn’t get to pull off all of my ideas, but I’m still happy with how things turned out. I wanted a New Orleans/African/Global voodoo vibe since I have this bright coral colored wall. The main color was to be a swampy lime green with almost a bit of mardi gras purple flair. My original idea was to make a poster with the witch doctor lyrics “ooh ee oo ah ah, ting tang walla walla bing bang.” but I ran out of time, so I threw a top hat on a skeleton and came up with “eat, drink and be scary” If I had really had time, there would be cute hand made voodoo dolls hanging from the ceiling holding buffet signs/tags for all of my creepy food I had planned. Anyway – here’s how it turned out. Hope you all have a happy and safe Halloween!!!

Left: What started it all…a trip to Target and these awesome paper plates and napkins. Right: “Slime bars” and pumpkin spice mini cupcakes…to die for.

The tablescape: burplap cloth, jute “creepy cloth”, silver serving platters, green moss, and traditional halloween items given a global twist with african masks and feathers.

Swamp cups with creepy crawly worms! To save time, we just ripped off the tops of some chocolate and vanilla snack packs, added crushed oreos and topped with gummy worms. The sour patch kids I bought would’ve looked great as tiny voodoo dolls on top as well, but those were forgotten in the pantry!

Left: I had made this cornbread stuffing with apples and turkey sausage. So warm and filling for Halloween night, and especially a crowd pleaser when served in a pumpkin. I had prepared the pumpkin and forgot to put it out! Right: “zombie skins” or rolled up italian deli meats with cheeses.

Pumpkin spice mini cupcakes.

Pumpkin Decorating activity

Marisa was supergirl this year, so I created this “Kryptonite Kate” costume to go with it.

Searching for Cortez’s Cursed Treasure in the sand table!

One of the activities for the party – making ghost foot prints. Easy to do and not too messy!
